Subject: New Director of the Division of Mathematical Sciences

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Judith S.
Sunley a Division Director of the Division of Mathematical
Sciences at the NSF effective on July 1, 1987.
Dr. Sunley holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in mathematics from the
University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. degree from the University of
Maryland. She was a member of the faculty of the Department of
Mathematics at American University in Washington, D.C. from 1971
until 1981. She joined the Foundation in 1980 as a Program
Officer for Algebra and Number Theory.
It has been my privilege to have Dr. Sunley as my deputy for the
past three years. The American mathematical community is
fortunate to have in Dr. Sunley a forceful spokesperson, who has
the respect of everyone in the Foundation.
