The Mid-Atlantic NA Day 2019 will take place at Temple University,
Philadelphia on Friday 15 November 2019.

The purpose of this one-day meeting is to provide a forum for Graduate
Students and Postdoctoral Fellows, i.e., researchers and practitioners
at the very beginning of their careers, from the Mid-Atlantic region,
to exchange ideas in numerical analysis, scientific computing and
related application areas. More established scientists are encouraged
to attend as well. Talks start at 10 AM to facilitate same-day travel.

DD26: Poster deadline extended, financial support available

The 26th International Conference on Domain Decomposition Methods
(DD26) will be held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from
December 2 to 6, 2019. The purpose of the conference is to bring
together mathematicians, computational scientists and engineers who
work in the main themes of Domain Decomposition, including
theoretical, algorithmic and implementation aspects of domain
decomposition methods, solvers for multiphysics problems,
parallel-in-time methods, multigrid and multilevel methods, fast
solvers and preconditioning, and applications of such methods in
physics and engineering.

This is a gentle reminder that the deadline for applying for financial
support is ending on September 30, 2019. Junior researchers from the
US or Mainland China are eligible to apply. Please email a cover
letter, including a statement about why you want to participate, along
with a CV to dd26@math.cuhk.edu.hk. Please arrange for one letter of
recommendation to be sent separately to the same email address.

We are currently inviting proposals for the poster session. Proposals
should be in the form of a plain text e-mail to

We are pleased to announce that the XV congress of SIMAI (Italian
Society of Applied and Industrial Mathematics) will be held from 15 to
19 June 2020 at the University of Parma. The aim of the conference is
to bring together researchers and professionals from academia and
industry who are active in the study of mathematical and numerical
models as well as their application to industrial and real-life
problems.

Six plenary lectures will cover a wide range of topics and a special
lecture will be given by a representative of the industrial world. The
program will be complemented by minisymposia, contributed talks and a
poster session, aiming to cover most of the many different
applications of mathematics to industry, technology, environment,
cultural heritage, biology and society. The conference will host a
special Industrial Session allowing the participation of industrial
researchers and representatives. The web page of the conference

In particular, from 1 October 2019 it is possible to propose thematic
minisimposia, contributed talks and posters. The submission deadline

Research Associates in Remote Sensing and Machine Learning (Two posts,

Two positions exist for Post-Doctoral Research Associates to work on
the development of novel machine learning and image analysis
techniques within the EPSRC project Robust and Efficient Analysis
Approaches of Remote Imagery for Assessing Population and Forest
Health in India. The candidates will be based at the Department of
Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) of the University
of Cambridge, and will be a member of the Cambridge Image Analysis
group. The project is a collaboration between DAMTP, the Department of
Plant Sciences, and the Centre for Diet and Activity Research (CEDAR)
at the University of Cambridge, and the IIT Delhi and industrial
partners in India. The role of these positions will be to design and
implement novel, cutting- edge analysis methods for large-scale
remotely sensed data from the ground and from satellites, to benefit
policy making in climate change, healthcare and environment
conservation in India. This is an exceptional opportunity to conduct
ambitious research, whilst collaborating with an international team
for designing novel developments in machine learning for remote
sensing data. The posts carry no teaching or administrative
duties. There are generous funds available under the project for
attending conferences and conducting research visits.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the
first instance. Start date: 1 November 2019 or by mutual
agreement. Interview date: as soon as possible after the closing date.

About the project: The project addresses a broad spectrum in optimal
control of PDEs and focusses on some of the most pressing topics: High
dimensional Hamilton Jacobi Bellman equations arising in feedback
control, non-smooth, and possibly non-convex optimal control and
related computational techniques. The use of optimal control
techniques in data science applications can be another focus point for
the future collaborator's research.

Professional qualifications: Doctoral degree in a mathematical branch
of study. Solid knowledge in applied mathematics, including PDEs, with
specialization in either computational or analytical
techniques. Experience in the numerical treatment of high-dimensional
partial differential equations is especially welcome. Alternatively,
specialization in optimal control, calculus of variations, or
optimization is highly appreciated.

The duration of the fixed-term PhD positions is three years. The
