Resource Cataloging and Distribution Service (RCDS) Testbed

RCDS is a system we have developed as a part of the next logical advance in URL technology--URNs. RCDS allows existing URLs to be used as URNs so that resource authors can can immediately begin using URNs without greatly disturbing the resource consumer base.

RCDS has 3 essential components:

a resolution scheme used by resource consumers
a replication system to allow for high resource availability
a resource catalog which keeps track of where a resource has been replicated as well as any other information about a resource

What we have in place today:

a "personal proxy" tool which RCDS-enables Netscape and other browsers (get the code)
XXmeg, 15,000 URL collection which has been RCDS registered and replicated across the U.S. Our current collection was gathered from the following popular sites.
a client C library which allows you to build RCDS aware tools
