Here's the proposed solution in a nutshell.

The location database is a replicated, distributed database which maps resource names to current locations where those resources can be found.

SONAR is a service that helps an application find which of several servers are closer than others.

Integrity checks mean strong cryptographic hash functions, such as MD5 or SHA. Resource descriptions contain a strong hash of the file being replicated, and are signed so that a user can tell whether a replicated copy of a resource is both authentic and intact.
