The objective of this series of workshops is to provide a forum for

performance computational earth sciences. IHPCES workshops foster

opportunity to exchange advanced knowledge, computational methods, and
science discoveries in computational geosciences.

constitute the mathematics, statistics, and computer science
components of other programs at the university. The Mathematical
Sciences Department is in the early stages of developing minors in
computer science, and data science and analytics. Duties include
teaching mathematics at all undergraduate levels, advising students,
mentoring student research, and serving on committees. Candidates who
can, additionally, teach computer science or data science courses will
be preferred. The successful candidate is expected to engage in
research and scholarship, for example, publications in peer-reviewed
journals, conference presentations, grant activity, development of
industrial partnerships, development of interdisciplinary partnerships
with other academic departments; and to participate in university
service and university outreach programs.

A 2 year postdoc position is open at Ecole Polytechnique de Bruxelles
(Universite Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium) within the Numerical Analysis
Group lead by Yvan Notay and Artem Napov.

Research are to be conducted within the framework of the (H2020
founded) Energy oriented Centre of Excellence in computing
applications (EoCoE). This initiative aims at porting towards exascale
some of the biggest European simulation codes in the domain of
energy. The Numerical Analysis Group contributes with the linear
system solver AGMG (http://agmg.eu), which is integrated in several of
the EoCoE application codes. The successful candidate will work both
on the improvement of the integration of AGMG in these codes, and on
the improvement of its core performance on extreme scale
architectures.

AGMG is a linear system solver based on algebraic multigrid, using
some unique features that allow it to be world leader in its
category. Altogether, publications related to AGMG have attracted more
than 800 citations. Entering the team represents a unique opportunity
to work on a cutting edge project mixing numerical mathematics and HPC
programming.

The starting date is January 1, 2019, or later in 2019, according to
successful candidate availability. The position will remain open

In the context of the H2020 project "plan4res" (https://www.plan4res.eu)
the Department of Computer Science of the University of Pisa is
opening two post-doc positions ("assegno di ricerca").

Each position is for two years, with a gross salary of 32768
Euro/year, which means slightly north of 2000 Euro/month net. No
teaching duties are included. The positions require exclusive work on
the plan4res project, with more details provided below. Since a
significant implementation effort will be required, which may slow
down somewhat production of scientific papers w.r.t. what could
otherwise be expected, a third year is also guaranteed where the
recipients will be completely free to pursue whatever research line
they fancy, only subject to the conditions that i) the plan4res
objectives are met (since that's where the money will come from), and
ii) the recipient has duly contributed to reaching those objectives
(for obvious fairness reasons). A fruitful collaboration also during
this third year may well see the position to be further extended,
subject to funds availability and mutual interest.

The desired skills are working knowledge of optimization methods (in
particular Lagrange / Benders' decomposition and the use of
general-purpose linear, nonlinear and mixed-integer solvers), and
proficiency with programming languages (in particular C++) and
development tools (debuggers, profilers, versioning tools).
Experience with parallel programming techniques would also be very
welcome. The research will focus on the development of an innovative
C++ framework for modelling and solution of large-scale problems with
multiple, nested, non-uniform structures, and its use for implementing
sophisticated multi-level decomposition approaches (both sequential
and parallel) to the huge-scale energy optimization problems
envisioned in the project.

students, one in numerical analysis and computational science, and
another in biomedical engineering, to develop innovative numerical
methods for simulating atrial fibrillation and therapeutic options in
